Joseph Belmonte, Class of 1965

Joseph Belmonte, a proud graduate of the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy Class of 1965, has led a remarkable and purpose-driven life.

He spent 13 years in the maritime industry, rising through the ranks to become a Chief Engineer. During that time, he also served as an instructor at the Marine Engineers’ Beneficial Association (MEBA), sharing his knowledge with the next generation of engineers.

His career at sea was not without peril. After a devastating ship collision flooded the engine room, Belmonte swam underwater to reach an escape hatch—surviving a tragedy that claimed the lives of five of his shipmates.He will carry their memory with him throughout the rest of his life.

Following that event, he worked in Northern Ireland as a test engineer on two of the largest supertankers in the world at the time. But after more than a decade at sea, Belmonte felt it was time for a change.

He ventured into the stock market and quickly realized that the conventional wisdom didn’t offer the smartest path to financial success.

Determined to find a better way, he returned to school, earning a Doctorate in Business and Finance. His doctoral research laid the foundation for a book that challenged traditional investing strategies and introduced a new, more effective approach to building wealth.

As he launched his own successful stock market newsletter, he also shared his expertise by teaching investments at several universities in South Florida. Now, 22 years later, as he begins the succession plan to pass on his business, Dr. Belmonte has turned his focus to his legacy.
